Harbwr 8, Pwllheli - Self Catering Townhouse

This was the last townhouse to be completed of a development of eight such properties built on the quayside in the market town of Pwllheli. The views over the harbour and towards the marina and distant mountains are truly stunning, and yet the house is within walking distance of the town itself and all its amenities: pubs, restaurants, charming and diverse shops, cinema, leisure centre and the two 'Blue Flag' status beaches.

It also provides a perfect base for exploring the region - the bus station is nearby, as is the taxi rank, and the property actually backs on to the tiny railway station, the terminus of the scenic Cambrian Coast Line, which has connections to the major rail networks. So you could leave your car in the private car park for the duration of your stay, although by doing this you would miss out on the independence of exploring our beautiful peninsula at your own pace. Part of the pleasure is taking a little country lane on the peninsula and following it to a little cove or interesting village or a hilltop with fantastic views. The roads are rarely busy enough to delay you too much, the exceptions being Abersoch and the approaches to Pwllheli itself during the high season, especially on Wednesdays, market day, when tradition dictates that a high proportion of the residents of the outlying villages come into town, just as their parents used to do.

The house is also ideal for those who sail, the marina and sailing club being within walking distance, and a new Sailing Academy is scheduled to be built by 2013, which is certain to attract sailors from all over Europe. Pwllheli Sailing Club has a busy racing section, with competitive races almost every weekend throughout the Summer - they also arrange motor-cruising days for the less active, where a flotilla will leave together bound for a specific destination. If your fascination lies with the sea, boat trips leave the Marina regularly, either groups of fishermen heading out for a day's sport, or just people who enjoy being on the water and sharing the natural delights of our sheltered Cardigan Bay - we have an abundance of marine life on show, including porpoise and sometimes dolphins, and a resting place called Half Tide rock just to the east of the St. Tudwal's Islands for a thriving colony of seals. The islands themselves teem with bird life as, being uninhabited, they provide a safe environment for undisturbed nesting. Also leaving from the Marina almost daily, weather permitting, are the Bardsey Island boats, carrying passengers on day trips to this magical island. For the really adventurous, an hour's drive away is the port of Holyhead, a ninety minute fast ferry ride from Ireland, so a day trip to Dublin is also possible!

From those who enjoy a leisurely walk to the more serious hikers, the area has an abundance of public footpaths and coastal paths to suit everyone, and, a short drive away, you have the mountains of Snowdonia which provide the really challenging climbs - one can follow the path from Rhyd Ddu to the summit of Snowdon in about three hours. The weather can close in quickly here though, so do be prepared and choose your day and clothing wisely! If you wish to identify the mountains on our skyline, there is a granite plaque by the cenotaph on the Embankment Road naming them from Snowdon to the North to Cadair Idris to the South. The serious climbers tend to congregate around Betws y Coed, a very pretty rural village about an hour's drive away - en route, in the heart of Snowdonia, you will pass the Pen y Gwryd hotel, which was Sir Edmund Hillary's base for training prior to their ascent of Everest - this successful team have autographed the ceiling in the bar!

So whatever your interests, or even if you just want a relaxing break without exertion, I think you will agree that this little townhouse will provide you with an ideal central location which will allow you to be as active or laid back as you want to be. ENJOY!!
